Fireworks legal deadline
City Attorney Jayme Blakesley noted that under a cautious reading of state statute, the city may loosen restrictions after the May 1 deadline but adding new restrictions after that date could be subject to legal challenge. Council Member Bradley observed it is easier to lift restrictions than to add them later.
Fire conditions
UFA Fire Marshal Watkins indicated 2026 is expected to be a dry year. No large-scale fireworks-related fires have occurred in Holladay during allowed use windows. UFA increases staffing during fireworks season for active fire suppression response.
