UFA – Notable Highlights

Holladay's population is growing at approximately 1% per year; call volumes are increasing accordingly.
Lithium-ion battery fires occurred in Kearns, South Jordan, Layton, and Logan in 2025. A QR code linking to a battery recycling website was shared.
The Low Acuity Unit pilot program is underway, dispatched within an 11-minute drive radius covering most of Holladay. In the prior week alone, approximately 25 responses in Holladay did not require the heavy apparatus. The trial will run for one year. Common call types include falls, medical alarms, psychiatric problems, sick persons, and traumatic injuries.
All ambulances confirmed to have a paramedic on board.

UPD – Notable Cases (Q3 2025)

August 24, 2025
Shooting at an apartment complex; victim shot in the leg by an acquaintance. Suspect arrested by the Violent Crimes Unit on multiple felonies including aggravated assault causing serious injury, discharge of a firearm causing serious injury, possession of a firearm by a restricted person, and drug offenses.
July 15, 2025
Water leak causing a severe mudslide; Unified Command established with UFA.
September 4, 2025
Suspect residing in Holladay linked to multiple burglaries across the valley. Search warrant executed with detectives from Magna, Holladay, Millcreek, and Midvale. Yielded 8 firearms, $3,120 in US currency, 35 silver bullion coins, and jewelry. Suspect booked on multiple felony charges.

UPD – E-Bike Campaign

Classification of all e-devices published on the City website; article written for the Holladay Journal; educational video posted on Instagram.
Chief Hoyal noted that fleeing from police on an e-bike constitutes a third-degree felony and urged the public not to flee.
Several accidents involving children on e-devices occurred during the summer.

WUI – Legislative Background

H.B. 48
became law on March 3, 2025. Municipalities must adopt and enforce Utah Wildland Urban Interface Building Code standards within their boundaries by January 1, 2026.
The currently adopted standards date from 2006.
Policy questions were included in the Meeting Materials Packet for Council review and feedback.
